I want to create a 3D environment which makes it possible to create different types of products with one machine.
These products are created with different production methods, like steel(?)/wood mill, foam cutter (with wire) and a Rapid Proto Type variant (STL).
They all need to be produced with one software program, which is driven on simple 3D data (like STL).
Planning: Building Blocks
I'm not time driven, this is just for FUN! The project is devided in subjects with their own building blocks.
Each building block has it's own phases.
This is the list with all the subjects:
Production Methods:
Milling
Cutter
RPT
Mechanics:
Frame
Motion
Electronics:
Motor
Power
Hardware
IT:
Driver
Software
There will be more information while I'm developing the machine.

Current status (September 2008)
After starting this project in June 2006, I bought some (random) stuff and tried small things.
When running an unipolair stepper with Visual Basic on the LPT (with ULN2803 interface), I learned that speed is everything.
I never could run this stepper fast engough, especially not with the required resolution! Maximum speed was around 15 [RPM] (100 [PPS], while the target should be around 10K [PPS]).
